Womens 5km Walk/Run

The Women's 5k Cancer Council Tasmania Walk/Run has a new #1 Fan. ๐Ÿ˜

To quote Lily, as we crossed the finish line with a superman pose: "HEROES!"

Yep, it sure does feel that way my dear ๐Ÿ’—๐ŸŒธ

We splashed in puddles, we cheered on runners, we had a few high fives from marshalls, we stopped for water, danced with a very awesome crew, squealed and cheered (and crawled for a little bit, too!)

Jenny Grimes Circuit - Coles Charles St

The final lap of the first ever Jenny Grimes Circuit.ย
Merivale Steet to Coles Charles Street, down to Saint John (again!) and the 160 Bus Home ๐Ÿ’—

I had a rough idea of this route, but let the one-and-only Kathmandu jacket and treasured memories lead me. This path taken a thousand times through many eras of Mum's life. A few landmarks here will be special to us all. Pictures will have to speak the remainder of my words from this walk, as I am a little lost for them x

If the stories of these walks for Mum have given you a smile, or if you have fond memories of a walk that you yourself took with Mum, get out there for another some time soon. I have been walking this week in honour of Mum, in behalf of all our family and friends, in the lead up to the Cancer Council Tasmania Women's 5km Walk/Run tomorrow.ย

I have no words for the gratitude I felt this morning, waking up to see our fundraiser pass $1000. One thousand dollars. Thank you. Thank you all so, so very much.ย

(Lily tapped out of this walk, she did her bazillion steps at 4th bday party this morning ๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ)

Jenny Grimes Circuit - Friday Arvo Knockoff Route

The fifth, and my personal fave, walk of the Jenny Grimes Circuit. The 1.5km Aurora Energy Friday Arvo Knock Off (Junction Arts Festival Edition) ๐ŸŒธ
I can't tell you all how many times Josie and I received the following messages to our Girl Squad ๐Ÿ˜Ž group chat with Mum: "fantasises about takeaway, getting off bus for tea, then walking home" or "I'm at Saint John having a knock off ๐Ÿ˜"

Lily and I started our walk at 87 George, the old Aurora office.ย
At the starting line, Lily decided it was a sprint, and zoomed as fast as she could past Petrarch's Bookshop and down to the Quadrant Mall.ย
Up St John Street we went, past the one and only destination for a Friday Knock Off - Saint John Craft Beer! Mum very firmly claimed the groovy red leather couch (you know the one) as her personal seat. Lily on the other hand, was slightly terrified by the atmosphere (and is roughly 16 years underage) so we carried on up to Princes Square!ย

Lily took a lap, or 100, around Junction, in and out of some fantastic art displays!ย
Next was the Bus Stop, right near Du Cane Brewing, as the sun started to set we were off home again! We hopped off on Westbury road and wandered past the *old* bus stop on Normanstone, removed a while ago by Metro.ย

Greeted by an absolutely stunning Tamar Valley sunset as we got home x

I am so overwhelmed with the love and support of our fundraiser.ย
Originally, a goal of $250. We are now $167 off an incredible $1,000 for Cancer Council Tasmania! ๐Ÿฅน Thank you thank you thank you!ย

Jenny Grimes Circuit - Gorge Walk

Today for the fourth Jenny Grimes Circuit, Josie, Lily and I went for a wander through the Gorge ๐ŸŒธ

The Gorge is a truly special place, loved by Mum her whole life.ย
There is no possible way to recount a particular path here to walk for her, she simply loved them all. So as we wandered we visited some of our favourites from childhood, especially the Fairy Dell and the many descendants of the Ninja Peacock that attempted to steal Mum's handbag.ย

This one was 1.5km on feet, with a headstart of 457 metres via chairlift!ย

There are three days left until the Cancer Council Tasmania Women's 5km Walk/Run!ย
We have two more walks lined up Just For Mum before the Big One this Sunday.

Jenny Grimes Circuit - Palmer's Dance Studio / Cosgrove Cottages

Today's Jenny Grimes Circuit involved 6 feet and 4 paws! ๐ŸŒธ๐Ÿฉท

Josie and Milo, Lily and I took off for the third planned walk in the Jenny Grimes Circuit, The 2km wander up Normanstone to Palmer's Dance Studio.

Mum loved this walk, taking Josie up to her dance lessons and home again.

Leaving from The Vale, we took a left up Normanstone.ย
The kids had a few ideas of their own. Lots of sniffs, a few "let's catch up-s", a tangled lead or two, and one solid "Aunty Josie, I RUN AWAY!"

At Cosgrove Cottages the kids said "change of plans."
And in true Jenny style, our route was now in their hands (and paws ๐Ÿ˜†)
We paused for a sit on a little bench. Said hello to strangers gardening, and visiting their friends. Lily spied a hole in a bush, and checked if there were bunnies. Then checked down below as we went up some stairs, and finally said "Mama no bunnies."
We cut through Cosgrove Park, headed to Waveney.
And found a precious new landmark, Miki's Tree. Hi, Miki. We'll come again.

Along Waveney we went, popped a Daffodil in a fence-vase.
Down a small strip of Normanstone, then home along Merivale again ๐ŸŒธ

All Of Us Against Cancer - Paws Included ๐Ÿ’—

Our little family unit can't believe our eyes. $800 in memory of Mum and Gran.
Our original goal is well and truly surpassed.ย
This fundraiser stays in Tasmania - you have all helped a family member, a friend, a neighbour. Thank you. ๐Ÿค๐ŸŒž

Jenny Grimes Circuit - Glen Dhu Primary School Return

This morning Lily and I stepped out for our second Jenny Grimes Circuit. Today's route, a deeply special one. The 2km Glen Dhu Primary School Return. ๐ŸŒธ

Numerous tiny feet tottered this walk with Mum. For over a decade, she took this path, walking an array of scallywags to school.ย

Departing from The Vale, we wandered down Merivale.ย
We looked both ways for cars at the crossroads of Peel, Waveney, and View.
Down View we walked, past Old Jack's house.ย
We took the corner near the Cool Castle Gate.ย
We spied the Gum, still standing tall.
And a bush where once, a Great Cat Rescued occurred when coming home from school.
We took a moment to say the best name of all "The Greek Orthodox Church of The Dormition of our Lady" (and discovered their tap is still removed, no water thieving today.)
Along Wellington we wandered, we waved to cars and smiled at strangers.ย
Lily pressed the button at the lights, and said "HI SCHOOL" to Glen Dhu.

Now unlike her mother, Lily took one look at the overpass and said "I AM ON. GET ME UP THERE."
I'm glad she counted the cars and steps for me... As a little girl I hated this overpass and was determined it would collapse while I was walking over it. ๐Ÿ˜†

We started our return, back up Wellington again.ย
Crossing safely near the Church at Rose Lane.ย

Up View we went, and that's where Real Magic happened.ย

"Still out?" Says the New Old Man, standing in the front yard of Old Jack's House. He waved and smiled as we first wandered by.ย
"Yeah, this is my old path to Glen Dhu and home from when I was a little girl. I'm showing it to my daughter today."
"How wonderful. Say, Little One, would you like a flower? Here, this one is a Camelia."

And this was my reminder today. It truly is All Of Us Against Cancer ๐Ÿ’—

Our little family unit reached our target of $500 in memory of Mum and Gran yesterday! To our sponsors; this support means more than my words can describe. Every cent you have donated stays in Tasmania for local services and supports for Cancer patients and their families. You have made a difference. Thank you. ๐Ÿค๐ŸŒž

Jenny Grimes Circuit - Merivale Street

Lily and I have completed our first Jenny Grimes Circuit on behalf of all our family and friends! This is our very own kind of "walking forwards with grief" training before the Cancer Council Tasmania Women's 5km Walk/Run this Sunday ๐ŸŒธ

Today we took on the classic 31 Merivale loop. Departing from The Vale, up Normanstone Road, along Waveny Street, a toe touched on the corner of Peel, then the Merivale return.ย

An awesome 1.3km starter for a tiny girl. Lily required two carry assists - only when faced by up and down a couple Big Hills. Paused for a detour for a jump off the curb. Likely too many steps to calculate after a few run on the spots.
Her finish line was decided at 21 Merivale, where she declared "Mama I run away"ย
(not today, kiddo)
