Women's 5km Walk/Run 2026

1 Year Milestone - I’m raising funds for cancer!

The picture on my profile was taken by my 4 yr old son last year, the day after we found out I had breast cancer. We needed some sunshine and exercise - running helped me cope through the anxiety and adrenaline spikes every time the phone buzzed while waiting 8 days for biopsy results.
My cancer was caught early and able to be removed with surgery.  Family, church and work were all so supportive and rallied with childcare, food deliveries and check in calls. It was a life-changingly hard thing that I wouldn’t wish on anyone and I’m acutely aware it could have been so much worse.

Here’s your reminder to get to know your body and don’t put off checking in with your GP.  I felt the inconvenience factor and the “it will never happen to me, probably just being dramatic”.   But we only get one body and one life - it’s worth checking.

I’m grateful to be able to celebrate being cancer free for 1 year by joining the Women’s 5 km tomorrow.
Please help me raise funds for the great work Cancer Council do supporting people with resources and practical supports.
