Women's 5km Walk/Run 2026

One Very Confused Border Collie

September is getting closer, which means Atlas and I have been trying to get some training walks in for our upcoming Cancer Council 5K Walk.

In theory, it's simple. Pop Atlas in the pram, clip Whitby onto his lead, enjoy a nice peaceful stroll...

In reality? Whitby seems to believe his life's mission is to walk directly in front of the pram. Every. Single. Time.

No matter how many times I steer around him, he somehow manages to wander back in front, gets the gentlest little nudge from the pram, then spins around to stare at me with the most offended expression as if I'm the one who just walked into him! The betrayal on his face is oscar worthy. If dogs could roll their eyes, he'd definitely be doing it.

So our "training walks" have become equal parts fitness, pram navigation, dog dodging, and apologising to a Border Collie who is convinced he's the victim.
Despite the chaos (and Whitby's dramatic performances), we're getting the ks in because this walk means so much to us.

Atlas and I are walking to honour my beautiful Nounie, who sadly lost her battle with breast cancer, and to celebrate my grandparents, Omi and Poppy, who are both cancer survivors along with my boss Steve. Every dollar raised helps the Cancer Council continue funding vital cancer research, prevention programs and support services for Australian families.

If you've been thinking about donating, I'd be so incredibly grateful for your support. Every contribution, no matter how big or small, helps bring us closer to our fundraising goal before September.

And don't forgetdonations of $2 or more are tax-deductible in Australia, so you can support an amazing cause and claim it back at tax time next year.

Thank you to everyone who has already donated, shared my fundraiser, or cheered us on. It truly means the world to us. Now, if you'll excuse us, Whitby has another appointment to dramatically throw himself in front of the pram.

Walking for Those We Love

This year, Atlas and I will be walking 5k to raise funds and awareness for cancer research and support, in loving memory of my beautiful grandmother, Nounie.

Twenty-two years ago, we lost Nounie to breast cancer. Although she never had the chance to meet Atlas, I know she would have adored him. He has inherited her affectionate nature, and every time I hold him close, I'm reminded of the incredible woman she was.

Since losing Nounie, cancer has continued to touch our friends and family. My grandmother, Omi, my grandfather, Poppy, and my head honcho Steve have all faced their own battles with cancer and, thankfully, have come out the other side.

Watching my grandparents become great-grandparents to Atlas has been a gift our family will never take for granted.

This walk is about more than the kilometres we'll cover. It's about remembering those we've lost, celebrating those who continue to fight, and supporting the research and services that bring hope to so many families.

Atlas and I are incredibly proud to walk in honour of cancer warriors, past and present. Every step we take is for those who can no longer walk beside us, those still fighting, and those who will face this journey in the future.

Thank you to everyone who supports us, donates, or helps spread awareness. Together, we can make a difference.
